Hemp Testing

If you are a registered hemp cultivator in the state of California, the California Department of Food and Agricultural requires potency testing for industrial hemp crops 30 days prior to harvest to determine total Tetrahydrocannabinol levels are at or below 0.3%.  We are an approved industrial hemp testing facility for San Diego, Riverside, Imperial, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Kern, and Lake counties and can conduct both quality assurance and compliance testing for your harvest.

Alpine Science Laboratory is one of the few labs approved by the CDFA to conduct both quality assurance and compliance testing for prospective client’s harvests.

Steps for CDFA Analysis

Step 1

Present a signed pre-harvest report to the commissioner a minimum of 30 days before the expected commencement of the harvest to initiate the sampling process.

Step 2

The commissioner, a USDA-approved sampling agent, or a federal, state, or tribal law enforcement agent authorized by the USDA collects samples following this procedure..

Step 3

Subsequently, the samples are transported to the client's selected third-party testing facilities, where testing is conducted to confirm that the Tetrahydrocannabinol concentration complies with CDFA requirements.

Step 4

The third-party lab issues a pass/fail designation for the sample within 10 days after collection, and the results are communicated to the client (registrant), the USDA, and the commissioner..

Step 5

Based on your results, make arrangements to sell your approved hemp to a licensed entity. Alternatively, if needed, be prepared to either re-sample or re-test your samples.

Step 6

For any questions please reach out to your county commissioner

R & D

Pre-CDFA Hemp Testing

The primary goal of CDFA analysis is to ensure that hemp plants do not surpass the maximum concentration of 0.3% Tetrahydrocannabinol. Alpine Science Laboratory advises registrants to initiate monitoring of cannabinoid concentrations through weekly potency analyses approximately 4-6 weeks into flowering. Various environmental factors can influence these concentrations

Begin Potency Testing

It is recommended to commence potency testing 4 to 6 weeks into the flowering stage to ensure that your flower does not surpass the 0.3% Tetrahydrocannabinol limit. It is further advised to continue testing every week until harvest.

Last Test prior to CDFA

To ensure successful CDFA hemp testing, it is recommended to conduct a final potency analysis before submitting your pre-harvest report to the county.
